In the intensifying war, a passenger plane is mistakenly shot down. One by one, casualties are confirmed, but ... One standing person, an uninjured little girl, comes out alive.
Before long, she was a lovely, fully-grown woman. Although, with the passing of time, mysterious abilities began to awaken.
At first, she was moved to private research facilities. These were halted by the eye of the Government, however. Analysis was initiated for military purposes.
The power that but bent Cosmic Law, people call "Planar Manipulation Sorcery".
In combat, eyes opened to the soaring military prowess in wake of this woman-At the demand for such a solidified military presence ... Boundlessly severe and cruel human testing developed.
Perhaps, in the initial event, her magical power surged out of control, unintentionally causing the "Astral Impact".
The awe-inspiring magical shockwave extensively, as well as in mass, bestowed the blessing of Planar Manipulation Sorcery in young girls.
Soon, the forms of girls harnessing magical power became visible in large quantities. Because of that beautiful fighting figure, they were called, "Vanguard Princesses", inspiring the elite soldiers.
One year after, around the time the war also faced its end following the Astral Impact, a thought to be missing little girl reincarnated as "Executive Overseer" to the destruction of mankind.
And so, the created-to-lead Vanguard Princesses's battle engulfed the world ...

Magical attacks are now much more frequent and important compared to their occasional use in Napishtim.

The story starts off with a couple of characters, Nina and her friend Cray, travelling across the desert in search of Nina's sister, Elena, whom had disappeared many days ago. During their trek through the desert, Nina discovered Ryu, a mysterious person who has no memory of his past. Ryu also mysteriously have the power of a dragon. With Ryu tagging along, the three characters continue along their journey across the world in search of Elena. In the meantime, a long dead emperor god has been resurrected. This emperor is Fou-Lou. Fou-Lou then begins his journey back to his empire to reclaim the empire that he built many years ago. This is where the story branches off now and then. On one hand, you get the story of Ryu and his group on a quest to search for Nina's sister as well as learn more about Ryu past and his relations to the dragons. On the other hand, you have the story of Fou-Lou and his quest to reclaim his empire. Both story will slowly intertwine with one another.

In addition to the standard fighting genre, there are extra battle modes like Battle Royale and Team Vs Team. In EX Mode version, a player can change their style of fight for another type before the battle starts.
Each player has a "life bar" and a "super bar". The first indicates the character's health and the second their ability to perform "Super Combos". The Super Combo consume itself bar and can be filled up to 3 stocks. Each Super Combo has a level assigned to it, which determines how many "Super Combo" bars it will need. The four basic attacks are punch, kick, grab and air attack. The latter also performs a taunt move that cannot be blocked by air attacks and upon impact drops the opponent.
SCWU also features "Combos", where the player can perform a combo by pressing the Kick or Punch button after striking their opponent with the Punch button for a total of three hits. Combos will usually cause a character to change into various costumes during the sequence, and perform a powerful attack in the end - this final hit is usually the hardest in the sequence to connect with. These costumes range from cosplay uniforms (such as traffic cops or schoolgirls), to swimsuits, and even cosplays of other Anime characters.

Melty Blood: Act Cadenza ver.B is a Windows PC port of the arcade ver.B2. It has added features including tag-team mode, a 4-player team battle mode, a programmable dummy for training purposes and a new hidden boss character, Neco-Arc Chaos Black G666(replacing G-Akiha from Melty Blood: Re-ACT). It also included subtle gameplay changes, most notably altered defense ratings for characters and adjustments to the game's input system. Because of this, it is not considered an arcade-perfect version of B2.
